Curricula
We believe every child learning differently so we want to make each day a unique learning experience for the children in our centre. At StrongSteps, we integrate four different learning philosophies. We called it, “The Fantastic Four”: HighScope, Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia.
  1. HighScope method is that children are "active learners" and best learn from activities they plan and do themselves. The teacher's role is to ensure that children become involved in the activities. Children are also encouraged to organize their own "work".
  2. Montessori is a method of education based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. Children make choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. This educational approach supports the idea of the environment as the third teacher.
  3. Waldorf (Steiner) focuses on practical, hands-on activities and creative play. The goal is to develop free, morally responsible, and integrated individuals equipped with a high degree of social competence.
  4. Reggio Emilia is a way of planning curriculum that focuses on being responsive to children’s interests to create meaningful learning experiences. Children thrive and learning best when their interests are captured.  Learning occurs naturally.

Life & Social Skills
We are inspired by S. H. Schwartz's Universal Value theory. Universal values are the base of “Life Skills” development; personal, social and emotional developments.

Studies show that the most important skills to learn are social skills. It is the foundation for all learning. Our Four Cs of learning: Confidence, Cooperation, Creativity, and Communication.
  • Confidence: The development of children's sense of confidence or self-esteem. This means helping them feel good about who they are, both individually and in relationship to others. This is a lifelong skill that will help them feel competent now and as they continue in their schooling.
  • Cooperation: Games, stories, and songs help children learn how to work with others — no small task at this age! This teaches them how to empathize and to get along with others.
  • Creativity: Creativity is the freest form of self-expression. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling for children than to be able to express themselves openly and without judgment. It fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, and new ways of thinking and problem-solving.
  • Communication: Expressing themselves and representing their ideas, feelings, and knowledge about the world is a key skill for children. It is at the core of all reading, writing, math, and science skills.
